Saturday was the cookout at my aunt’s house. Everyone loved getting to meet Joshua for the first time and he was pretty good while we were there. I honestly don’t think he cried once. He got a little fussy when he got tired or hungry, but other than that, things were great. There was also no family drama. Thank the Lord! All of my aunts and uncles were on their best behavior!
It was hard for me to eat this weekend since everything had butter, or cream, or milk in it. I think I ate a pound of baked beans because they were dairy-free. I did have a sliver of cake and luckily Joshua seemed relatively unaffected by any dairy that might’ve been in there.
It was great getting to see some of my cousins since it’s been a decade since the last time I saw them all. It was also great to see my grandfather. He’s 86 now and his health is fading. He has to walk with a cane and he’s had cataracts surgery. It was strange to see him so…frail…since my memories of him are of a time when I was much younger spending my summer vacation on his farm. I’m glad Joshua got to meet his great-grandfather, even though he won’t remember it. At least there are pictures.
