Turning 30

I’m so completely overwhelmed with BlogHer.

But I love Jess from Taking It One Step At a Time.

She’s my soul sister and I love her.

Also? I’m never turning 30. Except I will next March. 🙁

Please read and love Jess like I do.

Last month I turned 30.

3 – 0.

Do you remember when we thought 30 was sooooo old? When only old people like your teachers and your parents could ever be as old as 30?

Funny how your definition of old changes the older you get.

In all honesty 30 isn’t that much different from 29. Yeah, sure, I have to check a different box when asked my age on a survey. But it’s right there, next to my previous answer of 24-29. It’s right next to it.

As a matter of fact, 30 has been pretty awesome so far.

I went blond(er), which was a huge step for me considering I had been an {un}natural red-head for more years than I can remember.

I got adventurous with my sushi choices {for the record, I will eat eel as long as it is wrapped up with lots of tempura fried goodness}.

I started taking Zumba. Oh Zumba, how I love thee.

Let me tell you a little something about Zumba.

I went in to my first class all “I totally got this, I know how to shake my ass, and pshaw, I was like totally a cheerleader in high school {side note: at no point in time did the fact that high school was 12 years ago even register on my radar}. I GOT THIS.

For those of you thinking these same thoughts before entering a studio I have just two words for you: WAKE UP.

Because no matter how great of a dancer you think you are with a drink in your hand {which coincidentally I seem to become an even better shaker the more drinks I have had} and rockin’ heels you are in no way prepared to Zumba. At all.

At one point I was so lost I just started spinning around in circles.

I’m not kidding.

And I hurt the next day. Muscles aching, crawling across the floor and barely able to raise my arms long enough to apply make-up. Hurt. Everywhere. From dancing.
But I went back. And I’ve been back several times since. Yes, I’m still sore. Yes, I still feel that this class would be much more beneficial if we introduced Apple Martinis. But I went back.

And I’m almost keeping up with that old lady in the front row now.

I've been 3-0 for 3 years now . . . it ain't so bad. I hate not being able to drink like I used to . . . and I have to thank the guy at the Japanese steak house who decided to get all adventurous with his sushi selection, didn't eat his $18 roll, and gave it to me. Squid, salmon, tuna, avocado, mango, wrapped in seaweed with spicy sauce & roe. It was incredible.

I loved the one Zumba class I went to before I got knocked up. I am planning on going back in September but I remmeber I somehow hurt my damn knee and it hurt for a week. And I agree, Zumba would be so much better with drinks!

Haha! I would totally spin in circles should I do a Zumba class, I am absolutely terrible at following instructions.

And 30 is EASY. I'm approaching 35. That's the midway point to FORTY.
