Remembering Miller

This morning is a very bittersweet morning for a great friend of mine from college. This morning is the morning she and her husband said goodbye to their sweet baby Miller two years ago.

Miller was born too soon and was far too sweet for this earth. His 100 days of life were more full of fight than many of us have to muster in much longer lifetimes.

Miller has touched lives in ways unimaginable for someone as tiny as he was. And he continues to touch and change lives today. Two years later.

Much of this life-changing is done through the March of Dimes. Even though Miller’s story isn’t the usual March of Dimes story, his life is being used by the March of Dimes to show how much fight these precious warriors have and how much further we still need to go before all babies are born healthy.

Alesa and Bubba have become a Campaign Family for 2011. As a tribute to Miller and his parents, I’m writing this post today to ask you to give. $1. $5. $25. Whatever you can, whenever you can. There are so many success stories. But there are even more stories like Miller’s. And that is a heartbreak I cannot imagine.

If you feel compelled to donate to the March of Dimes, please consider donating in Miller’s memory through the link below.

oh how my heart goes out to your friend and her family...I understand from personal experience how very difficult it is to have a child born early; my oldest daughter was born micro preemie at 23 weeks and spent 4 months in the NICU before coming home. She is doing so remarkably well 6 years later ~it has been a journey (not always easy) but one trait that has remained consistent through the entire process is the fight ~oh my she is a warrior. What an excellent cause you're supporting ~thank you!

Our very good friends' daughter was born early and was in the NICU for quite a while. People seem amazed sometimes to learn that she's perfectly healthy when they also learn that she was born so early.

I'm so happy to hear that your daughter is a little fighter! It will serve her well in life!

I am so sorry for your friends. I have supported the March of Dimes for years. As the campaign coordinator for my employer many years ago, I had the opportunity to tour a NICU at one of the nation's premier Children's Hospitals. I was apprehensive about it, and expected it to be a sad experience. It was the opposite. I found the NICU to be a place filled with love and joy, and success stories. Yes, there were losses. But overall, the babies there were doing great and their prognoses were good. That is all due to the work the March of Dimes does.

Now that I am a mom, that work means even more to me. My hubby and I participate in our local walk through his employer. And (TMI warning here) our daughter was actually conceived immediately after doing so several years ago. ;) All the more reason for the organization to be special to me. ;)

Two of my nephews spent time in NICUs after they were born. One for just a few days and one for a couple of weeks. Two weeks is NOTHING compared to what some parents live for months on end.

The March of Dimes is so, so important to these parents and these babies.

We've donated in memory of Miller. Truly a little life that touched so many.
