What happened to napping?

July 3, 2009 by Miranda 2 Comments

I think alien abducted my child at some point this week in order to conduct studies on his naps. That’s the only explanation I have for the last three days.

He napped like normal on Monday and was an ANGEL for the 100 day birthday party. He napped like normal on Tuesday and slept okay that night. By Wednesday, I don’t know what happened.

We’d worked up a good routine. He was taking two GOOD naps every day. I was starting to feel normal again, like I could accomplish things during the day AND be a mommy. Apparently, I got a little too cocky and he decided to teach me a lesson.

On Wednesday, my child took three 45 minute naps ALL DAY LONG after getting up at 6:00am. Three naps. Each lasting only 45 minutes. All day. I have never been so excited for 7:30 to get here so that I could put him in the bathtub and start getting him ready for bed. He slept pretty well on Wednesday night, which was good.

Thursday, however, was a nightmarish day that made me wonder if he’d been swapped for a newborn. He would NOT sleep. I think I might’ve gotten the same amount of naps out of him each lasting for the same amount of time as Wednesday. On Wednesday, he’d been a pleasant baby. On Thursday, he morphed into Captain Crankypants. It was not cool. Not at all.

(It's like a bookmark, but...not.)

He was whiny and would NOT let me put him down. But he just wanted to squirm when he was in my lap. He could not get settled down. He was in bed by 8:45 and ended up sleeping really well last night. We finally rolled out of bed at almost 9:00 this morning. No…he didn’t sleep straight through. I think he had woke up to eat three times, which is really okay since his night time feedings are over in about 20 minutes tops. I was just thankful to get some sleep.

Today, only marginally better naps. And he went back and forth between cranky and happy.

I have no idea what has been going on with him. If this is the beginning of teething, I’d just rather he didn’t get teeth and we’ll buy him a set of dentures for his first birthday. If this is from changing his reflux meds, well, then I don’t know how I’m going to last another week to see if things get better.

Please, please, someone help me find Joshua’s naps!

My youngest is going to be two and she still has a on and off nap schedule. Sometimes she'll sleep for 3-4 hours and then somedays only 15minutes. I still haven't figured out why, but I hope your little guy finds his good naps soon :)Stopping in from SITS to say hello…have a great 4th of July!
