Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!!

I’ve settled on a theme for the nursery! Woot! Here’s the inspiration:

DH and his dad are huge Formula 1 racing fans, and I’ve watched with DH for the past two or three seasons. I enjoy it, too. So, we’ve (ok, I’ve) decided to do a semi-F1 racing themed room for Baby.

I’m going to start by painting the room a light khaki or beige. Then, I’ll make the bedding and curtains using khaki, red, chocolate, and cream-colored fabrics. Here’s the furniture we’ve picked out:

The crib is the 4 Seasons Harmony Espresso crib from Young America by Stanley. (More to come on this subject later!) We didn’t want to spend a fortune on a dresser that Baby will likely beat the crap out of, so we decided to go with the Hemnes 8-drawer dresser from Ikea. (We have the queen sized bed and 6-drawer chest in the Master bedroom and love it.) The dresswer will double as a changing station while Baby is in diapers.
We’re also considering the 3-drawer Hemnes chest in red if we need more storage. Plus, the red chest will give the room some pop and a little flair. Because I’m an English teacher, no room is complete for me without books, and if you have books, you need a place to put them. So, I want two bookshelves in Baby’s room. I also have an old upholstered rocker from the 60s that I’m going to have reupholstered.
Where’s the F1 theme, you ask? I’m going to tie it all together with these:
I love the look of the vintage, black and white prints from the early days of F1. We’re also going to have DH’s sister, who is a children’s artist, paint a name canvas and a growth chart for Baby’s room. Here’s a link to her blog if you’re interested: http://www.mylildoodlebugs.blogspot.com/. She’s really talented and I know the paintings she creates for us will be perfect.
So, those are my ideas in a nutshell. What do you think? Any suggestions?
